Legal requirements

The migrated CePro documentation states that exam storage and archiving are governed by several legal provisions, including:

  • the Federal Polytechnic Schools Act (EPF Act);
  • the Ordinance on the Supervision of Studies at EPFL;
  • LEX 2.6.1 — Internal Directive on Exam Papers.

Retention principle

Exam papers are retained for six months after the end of the corresponding study cycle.

The documentation lists the following maximum retention periods:

Propaedeutic cycle2 years and 6 months
Bachelor's cycle4 years and 6 months
Master's cycle3 years and 6 months
Master's project1 year and 6 months
Special arrangements and appeals

For students whose maximum study duration is extended (for example due to certain special arrangements), the retention period may need to be extended. In the event of an appeal, retention is extended until the end of the procedure.
